OWMBC June of 2008 Just to bring everyone up to date as we have no June meeting. In May we had our time trials in Flint and we did fairly well, report to be filed in the fall. DRIVERS STAND: Just to let everyone know Roger Pickett really came through and put together a really solid stand. It was assembled at Joe Wiebelhaus’s house the week before the race; Joe donated all the lumber for the rails. My first look at it was the set up for the Mini Gold Cup, it went together in 30 mins and we tested it with people and it is going to last our club for many years to come. The dead boat stand he made worked out great. So when you see Roger, give him your thanks for a job well done. MINI GOLD CUP: Well the Mini Gold Cup has come and gone, turn out was lower then in years past but with our economy and gas prices all clubs will be dealing with it. It was HOT, HUMID and WINDY!! But still the water was rather smooth. The pond still had some weeds in spite of treatment; we spent 5 hours pulling weeds to make the backstretch raceable. The Gas Classic Thunderboats were on hand and were just awesome to watch, I hope the class keeps getting bigger. I would also like to thank Bert Dygert and Jerry Betke for putting on a great race, last year we struggled but this year we were praised on a good and safe race. The club would like to thank the following: Vince from the Ford club for bringing his gas weed chopper, Josh Stollfuss for lending us their outboard motor as ours is in need of a new starter rope and would not have made it through the weekend. To Bob Nauss and Gary Girvin who stuck around and helped us pack up during the bad thunderstorms, to Unlimiteds Detroit member Greg Walczak who rolled fencing and pulled poles and helped pack the trailer during the storms, to Debbie Owens for collecting the 50/50 and much more. Roger Pickett for bringing down the drivers stand and trailer, Jeff Beuthien for working the retrieve boat most of the day. It was a great single effort by all the club members. MOTOR: We need some work done on our outboard motor, a new pull started rope is needed, and I think in the near future we may need to look for a new used motor.. SPENCER PARK: Well now we must start thinking about our fall race and how we can make that race more profitable, we all know how time fly’s and it will be here soon. We also have our fall Time Trials in Flint, Terry Keeley and Mike Nowicki will CD We will have full financial reports in the fall, so until then I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer.
